Evening Coat by House of Worth
France, 1901
This is an iconic coat of the House of Worth. The construction is meant to emphasize the textile in the most dramatic way and would have been custom made for the House. The House of Worth was founded with an interest in heavily supporting the textile industry through vast amounts of elaborate textiles. This is an example of how that mission continued on through the design’s of Charles Frederick Worth’s son.
I’d just like to know a bit more about Priscilla. She seems like a cool person (pre-hat, at least). What’s she like?
Ooh! I think this is regarding the new BBT AU, so yey! Backstory time!

Priscilla Jones is a charming young Victorian lady of inferior birth – the daughter of a violinist and actress, along with her younger brother.
Born and raised in middle class London, she inherited a natural musical talent from both her parents. She always had aspirations for high society and would present herself as though she were a societal lady. Her father encouraged her musical interest, yet deterred her want to pursue a musical career, and wishing instead she become something more reputable and humble, such as a governess. However when Priscilla was of age and after the passing of her mother, she obstinately full-on pursued the theater to catapult her career (also as homage to her mother).
As an actress, Priscilla stayed with her mother’s former colleague, Lady Salome D’Y, and finally received her dream of being exposed to fashionable society, the “glamorous” leading lady lifestyle, courtship, and the never-ending sounds of exquisite music. She equally lived up to her mother’s beauty and presence on the stage, and captivated many a viewer’s hearts by her voice.
Unfortunately, Lady Salome’s kindness harshly turned to bitterness once Priscilla began to acquire more attention at the Theater, and she grew quite hostile to the younger woman. So much so, Lady Salome ultimately became the cause of Priscilla’s sudden tragic demise.
But that is another story – isn’t it?
